Discovery is where we analyse your primary and secondary audiences and define the scope and architecture of the site. We review your goals, your content and your existing data, and we use AI research tools to analyse kickoff documents and client interview transcripts so we understand your users faster. The output is an agreed sitemap and a content block structure for every page, which becomes the foundation for design.

We design the site around the journeys your audience actually takes, then pressure-test those journeys before any visual design begins. Our UX work is user-first and mobile-first, built on high-fidelity wireframes rather than placeholder grey boxes, so the structure and navigation are reviewed as real decisions. Usability is designed in at the wireframe stage, where the journeys are still easy to change.

We design to WCAG 2.2 AA, which is the right standard for most enterprise websites. AA covers colour contrast, keyboard and screen-reader navigation, alt text and clear labelling, and it keeps a site usable without forcing design compromises. AAA is reserved for specific public-sector and government contexts; for a commercial enterprise site, you can have an on-brand, high-performing website at AA. We raise accessibility considerations as early as the moodboard stage.

We design across five breakpoints: 1920px, 1366px, 992px, 768px and 375px. That covers large desktop, standard desktop, tablet and mobile, so the site is designed for each context rather than scaled down from a single desktop layout. Every page is reviewed at each breakpoint before launch.

We build every site on a design system, now aligned to the Tailwind CSS framework, with the Figma setup mirroring it. A design system keeps the interface consistent, makes updates cleaner, and lets us extend or restyle the site on a retainer without rebuilding from scratch. It also matters as more AI tools use design systems to generate pages, so a well-structured system future-proofs the site.

The design phase of a typical website runs around five weeks, from kickoff through to sign-off of the final UI. The full project timeline, including development and testing, depends on scope, the volume of content and how quickly each stage is signed off. We work to a waterfall process with stakeholder communication throughout, so you always know which stage the project is at and what’s needed from you next.

You own your website outright. The site is your property, including the design files, the code and the hosting setup if you choose to move it. We don’t hold anything ransom, and you’re free to take the site elsewhere. In our experience that’s still rare among agencies, and we think it’s the only fair way to work.

Preparation for development is the stage where we document how the site should be built before development begins. It covers contextual notes that go beyond the visual properties in Figma, how each element should function, behave and respond, the design system, and a section showing your team how to customise their own site. It ends with a handover meeting between the project manager, designer, developers and QA. This stage is why our builds need less reworking and produce fewer snags after launch.
