Helping you retain visibility in the world of generative AI

Search is changing. Google's AI mode and overviews, ChatGPT, Copilot, Perplexity and a whole host of other AI platforms are reshaping how users search. At SoBold, we help your brand stay visible in the growing world of zero-click search.

Search, but a different type of search

Whether it’s through Google’s AI mode or a prompt in ChatGPT, people are still searching, still asking questions, but they’re doing it in different places.

SoBold’s approach views Large Language Model (LLM) optimisation as a wider interpretation of SEO, but with the end goal of brand visibility rather than clicks. There are no tricks or gaming systems – we simply help you be the best, most extractable answer, every time.

How we optimise for AI overviews & LLMs

Whilst many of our principles are grounded in a traditional approach to search, LLM optimisation introduces new priorities: we help you become the most extractable, reliable answer across search engines, LLMs and AI overviews.

Technical health & crawlability

We ensure your site is rapidly crawlable and well structured, making it easier for traditional search engines and LLMs to discover and understand your content. From sitemaps to structured data, clarity and technical excellence is at the heart of what we do.

High quality, extractable content

We help you create content that’s not only useful, but quote-worthy. It’s clear and structured with correct formatting of heading tags, has FAQ blocks and clear definitions, and offers summaries and answers that draw on real expertise and experience.

Humanising content without sacrificing quality

LLMs, like traditional search engines, prefer content that reads like it’s written by a person, for a person. We optimise content without sacrificing authority, making your content approachable, credible and, most importantly, helpful for users. Content following these principles will see success in LLMs.

E-E-A-T in action

Experience, Expertise, Authority and Trust are even more important in a world where the model chooses what to show. Like with traditional search, we focus on demonstrating first-hand experience and real-world uses, creating content that signifies expertise, builds authority and conveys trust.

Prompt testing & competitor benchmarking

We use first-hand testing and a collection of extensive prompts to test your footprint across AI platforms. By analysing how LLMs answer your core queries, and how your competitors are represented, we shape your strategy around what’s currently being surfaced.

Specific LLM Optimisation techniques we use

We implement structured data, clear headings, and answer-first formatting so LLMs can accurately parse, summarise, and cite your content.

Structured answer formats

We format content to provide clear, concise answers that AI systems can easily extract and quote:

  • Definition-style paragraphs for concept explanations
  • Numbered lists for processes and steps
  • Comparison tables for feature analysis
  • FAQ sections targeting specific queries

Entity recognition enhancement

We optimise content to help AI systems understand and cite your brand:

  • Consistent brand name usage and context
  • Clear expertise and authority signals
  • Structured data for business information
  • Integration with content authority building

Conversational query optimisation

Content optimised for how people naturally ask AI systems questions:

  • “How do I…” and “What is…” query patterns
  • Natural language question variations
  • Context-rich explanations that stand alone
  • Cross-referencing with related services and concepts

Our strategic pillars

We adopt a structured approach tailored around how LLMs read, interpret, and surface information. Our strategic pillars ensure your site is technically sound, showcases content friendly to LLMs, and is trusted by users and AI platforms.

LLM Optimisation FAQs

Will Newland - SoBold founder

LLM optimisation is the work of making your brand and content more likely to be found, understood and cited by large language models: the systems behind ChatGPT, Perplexity, Copilot and Google’s AI Overviews and AI Mode. In practice it means making your content technically reachable, structuring it so machines can extract answers cleanly, and building the authority signals that make you a source worth citing. The end goal is brand visibility inside AI-generated answers, including the growing share of searches that never produce a click.

The foundations are the same: crawlable content, genuine authority, helpful pages. The differences sit in the goal and a few of the tactics. Traditional SEO optimises for rankings and clicks; LLM optimisation optimises for being cited within an answer, which puts more weight on extractable formats, natural conversational language, and understanding how LLMs source information through query fan-out. In our experience the technical output overlaps heavily, which is why the same work usually benefits both.

Broadly, yes. GEO (generative engine optimisation) and AEO (answer engine optimisation) are labels the industry uses for the same discipline; we call it LLM optimisation. Whatever the label, the substance is standard search foundations applied to how LLMs retrieve and present information. Be cautious of any pitch that frames GEO as a separate discipline with its own guaranteed tactics, because Google’s own guidance is clear that optimising for generative AI search is still SEO.

Google’s AI Mode and AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Copilot and Perplexity are the platforms we test against most, because they carry the bulk of AI search behaviour among our clients’ audiences. The good news is that the work isn’t platform-specific: extractable, authoritative, crawlable content improves your standing across all of them, so you’re not rebuilding your strategy every time a new platform gains share.

No, and we’d encourage you to be wary of anyone who says they can. Nobody outside the platform controls what an LLM cites; the systems are probabilistic and they change frequently. What we can influence is the set of inputs that genuinely affect your likelihood of being cited: whether crawlers can reach your content, whether it’s structured for extraction, whether your authority signals are real, and whether your content is current. We then measure honestly against a baseline, so you can see what moved rather than taking our word for it.

Through structured prompt testing. We agree a set of prompts that reflect how your buyers actually ask, run them across the AI platforms, and record whether you’re cited, how often, in what context, and how that compares with competitors. That baseline is taken before any work starts, and the same prompts are re-run as the engagement progresses. Results are reported through our AI Analysis Dashboard alongside your organic search data, so AI visibility sits in one view with the rest of your performance.

No. LLM optimisation builds on SEO foundations, and it works precisely because those foundations are in place: a site that isn’t crawlable or authoritative won’t be visible to LLMs either. Google still drives the large majority of search traffic, and its AI features are rooted in the same ranking and quality systems as classic search. We treat LLM optimisation as an extension of a strong SEO programme, which is why it pairs naturally with our monthly SEO management retainers.
