Resilient operationally and by design
Every SoBold US environment runs on a dedicated pair of enterprise SSD hypervisor servers, each with 64 GB of RAM, at least 8 physical cores and mirrored storage.
They sit behind a pair of physical failover firewalls, so if one piece of hardware has a problem, the other keeps your site running.
The servers run a long-term supported, server-grade Linux distribution with full virtualisation, so we can build the stack around your platform.
The servers are housed in a US data centre run by CoreSite, part of American Tower. Your production data and backups stay in the US.
The data centre holds ISO 27001, SOC 1 Type 2, SOC 2 Type 2, NIST 800-53, PCI DSS Level 1 and HIPAA / HITECH certifications, and has on-site engineers and security teams around the clock.
Both the engineers who run the servers and our developers work closely together to ensure there are no gaps across the digital estate.
Incident response
Response and resolution targets are covered across both our hosting and website management agreements.
Critical outages receive a response within 15 minutes and a resolution target of under 2 hours, with 24/7 coverage.
For clients on our Cyber Shield SLA, investigating and fixing the root cause in the application itself is handled by our development team, covered within our clients’ website management agreements.
Data protection
As standard, full backups of every site are taken nightly and kept for 30 days.
Backups are held locally in the US data centre, with a second copy on Amazon S3 in the US for supplier and location diversity. The two hypervisors also replicate to each other and back each other up.
The server operating system and packages are patched automatically every night.
Admin access uses named accounts with multi-factor authentication and is reviewed quarterly, and server, login and firewall logs are kept for 12 months.
Disaster recovery and failover with 99.9% uptime
Both servers hold a live copy of your site, so if one fails the other carries on and visitors don’t notice.
The data centre itself runs on two utility feeds from separate substations, N+1 generators with 24 hours of fuel on site, and redundant cooling.
For clients requiring geographic redundancy, we can replicate the primary platform to a disaster-recovery node at a second US data centre.
Global delivery
The data centre is well placed for audiences across the US, with fast routes into Europe too. If your visitors are spread further than that, we put a CDN in front of the servers to speed up delivery worldwide and absorb sudden spikes in traffic.
